Capodimonte: An illegal workshop discovered in a tuff cave; a boathouse seized.

Share

On the verdant hilltop of Capodimonte, where the city overlooks silence and history, a tuff cave has become the scene of a completely illegal operation. A man, already known to law enforcement from a criminal record, had converted a quarry into a boathouse, operating without any permit and ignoring the most basic environmental regulations.

The raid by the Local Police—Judicial and Environmental Police Operational Unit—was triggered by repeated reports from residents bothered by a pungent chemical odor that permeated the area, especially at night. The investigation led to the discovery of the unusual construction site: at the time of the inspection, the man was busy painting a boat, unaware of the officers' arrival.

The investigations revealed a textbook scenario of illegal activity: no permit for the operation, illegal management of hazardous waste, uncontrolled emissions into the atmosphere, and, to make matters worse, an illegal connection to the public electricity grid. The entire area was placed under seizure, and the man was reported to the judicial authorities.

Once again, environmental degradation and unscrupulousness find fertile ground in the hilly area, where the beauty of the landscape is sometimes marred by illegal activities that threaten public health and the balance of the territory. But the institutional response, in this case, was prompt, thanks to the collaboration between citizens and law enforcement.
