Pretends to be a police car
GIUgliano – Some people resort to patience to get around Saturday night traffic. And then there are those who opt for decidedly less orthodox solutions, like the 34-year-old Neapolitan who blasted a police siren on his car stereo, hoping to clear the line of cars.
His plan, however, did not go unnoticed by the Carabinieri from Giugliano in Campania, who stopped him and reported him for driving under the influence of alcohol.
According to some academic theories, alcohol has fostered human sociability over the centuries, facilitating cooperation and bonds. But in the case of the protagonist in this story, the only connection established was with justice.
It was late at night, and the man, accompanied by four friends, was driving his car when he decided to improvise as an emergency vehicle. There were no flashing lights on the roof, but a deceptive sound system created by the car stereo, likely connected via Bluetooth to his cell phone.
From there, at maximum volume, the recording of an emergency siren: realistic enough to fool many motorists, who let it pass.
The ploy, however, attracted the attention of a real Carabinieri patrol, busy with weekend patrols. The officers, suspicious of the vehicle's behavior and the sound it was making, decided to follow it. The chase was short-lived: once it was stopped, it became clear that the car had nothing to do with law enforcement.
The officers determined that the sound was coming from the vehicle's sound system. It wasn't an emergency device, but a veritable "sound hoax" blasted from the loudspeakers to deceive traffic.
The driver was tested for alcohol and tested positive. He was subsequently charged with drunk driving, along with a resounding lesson in what not to do to avoid traffic.
A "brilliant" idea, perhaps, but only for a few seconds. Just enough to go from fake agent to real suspect.
