NNaples – Law enforcement has taken another crackdown on drug dealing in the heart of the city. Two young Tunisians, aged 22 and 18, were arrested overnight by State Police in Piazza San Francesco di Paola, near Piazza del Plebiscito, after attempting to flee, hitting an officer with a scooter.
The incident occurred during one of the extraordinary checks ordered by the Naples Police Headquarters to combat drug trafficking in the historic center. Officers from the General Prevention Office observed a suspicious exchange between a passerby and a young man on a motorcycle. At the same time, a second young man was seen taking a tissue from under a trash can.
Upon seeing the patrol, the two fled on their scooter, hitting one of the officers while trying to escape. After a chase that ended in a struggle, the two were stopped and searched.
365 euros in cash and two cartons of cocaine were found on the arrested persons. hashishThe handkerchief seized shortly before contained 15 doses of cocaine, for a total of over 3 grams.
The 22-year-old, with a criminal record, was arrested for drug possession, resisting arrest, and assaulting a public official, as well as being charged with driving without a license. The 18-year-old was also arrested for drug possession with intent to distribute.
Meanwhile, the police continue extraordinary operations to restore order to the city center squares, which are increasingly the scene of drug-related incidents.
