POntecagnano – A large fire devastated a 2.000-square-meter warehouse belonging to the “Adinolfi” agricultural company, which specializes in bagging fruit and vegetables, overnight.
The flames, which broke out for reasons yet to be determined, kept firefighters from the Eboli, Salerno, and Giffoni stations busy for hours, with three fire engines, a ladder truck, and a truck equipped for refilling air cylinders.
Despite the extent of the blaze, no injuries have been reported. Firefighters, after containing the blaze in the early hours of the morning, are now working to complete cleanup operations and assess the damage to the structure. ARPA Campania technicians may also be called to the site to assess any environmental repercussions, given the nature of the activity carried out in the area.
The investigations, coordinated by the Carabinieri of the Investigative Unit of Pontecagnano, aim to establish the origin of the flames. No scenario has been ruled out, from an accidental event—perhaps linked to an electrical fault—to arson, which the military has not yet confirmed but has not ruled out either.
The company, which employs about ten people, will now have to assess the extent of the damage and the potential impact on production. Meanwhile, residents in the area reported that thick black smoke had risen overnight, visible for kilometers.
