The Natural Arch of Palinuro reopens after years of waiting.
CEntola – After years of closure and safety measures, the Natural Arch of Palinuro, an icon of Cilento and one of the most photographed places on the Salerno coast, officially reopens to the public this evening.
The ceremony, scheduled for 18:30 PM, will be attended by the Vice President of the Campania Region, Fulvio Bonavitacola, along with institutional representatives, civil and military authorities, and the mayors of the area.
This long-awaited moment restores a symbol of natural beauty to the area, but does not erase the memory of the tragedies that have marked its history. The work, funded with approximately €3,5 million in public funds, focused on stabilizing the rocky ridges and protecting the surrounding areas.
Initiated during the previous administrative term, the interventions included the downsizing of structures considered invasive from a landscape point of view. The mayor of CentolaRosario Pirrone has announced a second phase of work, with an expected investment of 2,5 million euros, to consolidate the internal wall and ensure long-lasting protection of the site.
But the lake isn't just a tourist attraction. Its history is marked by dramatic accidents, such as the partial collapse in 2014 that killed a young tourist who was hit by a boulder while on the beach, and other incidents of rockfalls that nearly resulted in tragedy.
These events prompted authorities to close the area for years, fueling debates about the site's safety and management. Today, the reopening represents a step forward, but the warning remains: nature, while extraordinary, requires respect and vigilance.
In a summer marked by a decline in tourist numbers compared to previous years, local operators and administrators hope that the rebirth of the Arch will boost Cilento's appeal.
"We are returning a priceless heritage to the community and visitors," said Mayor Pirrone. "This is a crucial step for the protection of the territory and for the future of tourism in our region." Tonight's ceremony marks a new beginning, but the memory of the victims urges everyone to remain vigilant.

It's wonderful that the Natural Arch is reopening, but I wonder if it's truly safe. Was the work done well? Let's hope there aren't any more accidents like in the past; safety is important.
Yes, I'm also curious to know if the authorities have implemented all the necessary measures. The beauty of the place shouldn't come before the safety of the people who visit it.
The reopening is a positive sign, but the Arch's history should give pause for thought. Let's hope that this time, every detail is taken care of and any risks are prevented.
