IThe judiciary is also investigating the deaths in Calabria and Sardinia, with the canned vegetable supply chain under scrutiny.
Scafati – The botulism nightmare returns. The Ministry of Health has issued a food alert due to suspected contamination in four batches of Neapolitan-style broccoli rabe produced in a plant in Scafati. Scafati (Salerno): two under the “Bel Sapore” brand and two under the “Vittoria” brand, one-kilo packs.
The company has ordered an immediate recall from the market and urges consumers not to open or consume any packages already purchased.
The warning comes during a summer marked by serious cases: last week, two people died in Calabria after consuming a sandwich from a food truck at a fair in Diamante.
A few weeks later, in Sardinia, another death was linked to contaminated canned vegetables. In both cases, prosecutors opened charges of manslaughter and violation of health regulations, investigating the production chain and controls.
Investigators' attention may now extend to the new case. Investigative sources confirm that the NAS (National Anti-Corruption Agency) and local health authorities are tracing the distribution of the suspect batches, verifying whether sterilization protocols were followed and whether the raw materials were properly handled.
According to experts, botulism—a potentially lethal toxin—can develop in canned foods prepared or packaged without adequate sterilization. This is a well-known risk, requiring stringent controls throughout the entire supply chain: from production in the factory to shelf-sale.

E’ important che si indaga su queste morti, ma mi domando se veramente i controlli siano stati effettivi. La gente merita di sapere se i prodotti che compra sono sicuri e non contaminati. Speriamo che la magistratura faccia chiarezza.
