CHerculaneum. A checkpoint in Cercola uncovered a drug trafficking network that extended all the way to Varcaturo. Carabinieri from the Cercola station arrested Vittorio Miniero, a 24-year-old from Casalnuovo already known to law enforcement, for possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking.
The young man was stopped in a car on Via Don Minzoni, accompanied by a 43-year-old Dominican man. During the search, officers found 12 doses of cocaine and €150 in cash on Miniero.
But the real twist came when the Carabinieri noticed a business card for a hotel in Varcaturo.
200 grams of cocaine found in a hotel room in Varcaturo
At that point, the search was extended to the hotel where the 24-year-old had been staying for a few days. In his room, number 247, the officers discovered a veritable drug dealing arsenal: in a backpack hidden in the closet were 200 grams of cocaine already divided and ready for sale, plus all the packaging material.
A further search of the young man's home led to the discovery of four more doses of the same substance in a closet.
The 43-year-old man who was in the car with the arrested man was charged with violating the Consolidated Law on Immigration, as he was found to be illegally residing in Italy. Miniero was transferred to prison, pending his appearance in court.

The situation in Cercola appears very worrying. Drug dealing is a serious problem and should not be underestimated. We hope that law enforcement will continue to do their job to improve safety in the area.
