NNaples – A State Police operation in the Chiaiano neighborhood led to the arrest of a 59-year-old Neapolitan man, already known to law enforcement for specific criminal convictions. He was caught red-handed transporting a large quantity of foreign-manufactured tobacco destined for the black market.
The arrest took place yesterday afternoon in via GA Campano, during a territorial control service by the agents of the Police Station of ChiaianoSuspicious of the man's behavior, the police decided to stop and search his car. Inside, they discovered two boxes full of contraband cigarettes.
The shipment consisted of 960 packets of foreign tobacco, weighing approximately 19 kilograms. This quantity demonstrates a well-organized smuggling operation aimed at evading tax controls and supplying the illegal market.
The man was immediately arrested and will face charges of smuggling foreign tobacco products. The operation underscores law enforcement's ongoing commitment to combating one of the most widespread illicit activities, which damages the legal economy and fuels crime.
