Two dead in Diamante after Botulinum Toxicology: Paola Prosecutor's Office investigates street vendor

Share

DDiamante – The Paola Public Prosecutor's Office has opened an investigation into two deaths and a case of botulism food poisoning involving around ten people in Diamante.

At the center of the investigation is a street vendor who allegedly served broccoli and sausage sandwiches, which were consumed by the victims along the Tyrrhenian town's seafront. Among the victims is a 45-year-old woman from Praia a Mare, who died in recent days.

The funeral took place yesterday, but today the family filed a complaint with the Prosecutor's Office, claiming that the woman had eaten a sandwich purchased from the street vendor. The second case concerns Luigi Di Sarno, a 52-year-old Neapolitan, who died in Lagonegro while returning to Napoli with the family.

He also allegedly ate a sandwich from the same vendor, feeling unwell, which prompted him to seek medical attention at a private health facility on the coast. After receiving initial treatment, the man was able to leave, but his condition tragically worsened.

Chief Prosecutor Domenico Fiordalisi, supported by Public Prosecutor Maria Porcelli, is closely following the case. Investigators are examining the position of the street vendor, who has already been questioned in the presence of his lawyer.

At present, the focus is not on the quality of the products, but on the methods of preparation and serving them. Investigations are continuing rapidly to clarify every aspect of the affair and determine any responsibilities.
