TTorre del Greco – More bloodshed on the Vesuvius roads. A 40-year-old man, Mirko Acunzo, a resident of Scafati, lost his life in a tragic accident in Torre del Greco.
The tragic accident occurred on the evening of July 31st along Via Nazionale, near Via Torretta Fiorillo. The man was killed instantly during a violent head-on collision between two scooters, which seriously injured a 15-year-old boy, who is currently hospitalized with a critical prognosis at the Ospedale del Mare in Napoli
According to an initial reconstruction, the two scooters were traveling on opposite lanes when they collided, without involving other vehicles. Both drivers were thrown onto the asphalt. Acunzo, a longtime resident of Scafati, was unable to recover.
The investigation will now determine the exact cause and any responsibilities. Carabinieri and State Police officers responded to the scene of the accident, acquiring images from local surveillance cameras and gathering witness statements to reconstruct the collision's dynamics.
Hypotheses such as high speed, risky maneuvers or sudden obstacles are not excluded, all circumstances that will be evaluated by the technicians during the surveys at the accident site.
The 40-year-old's body was transferred to the morgue for forensic examinations ordered by the judicial authorities.
The tragic incident brings road safety back to the forefront of the debate, particularly on the busy and poorly monitored roads in the Vesuvian area, a place that has unfortunately already been the scene of other serious accidents.
The circumstances of the accident remain shrouded in mystery: the ongoing investigation will shed full light on the causes of the tragedy and any potential responsibilities.

It's a real shame that such serious accidents happen; it makes you think about how dangerous the roads are in this area. I hope the investigation clarifies the causes and prevents similar tragic events in the future.
