Couple charged with counterfeit €50 at mushroom festival in Benevento

CUSANO MUTRI ( Benevento ) – The aroma of porcini mushrooms has been ruined by a scam that rocked the traditional festival in the Sannio village. A young couple, both residents of the province of Salerno , were reported by the Carabinieri for attempting to pay with a counterfeit 50 euro note at one of the food stands.

The incident occurred Saturday evening, when the stand employees, suspicious of the size of the banknote, alerted the police on site for routine checks. The Carabinieri intervened immediately, identifying the couple and finding them in possession of other suspicious banknotes, which were promptly seized.

The two young men were reported at large for spending counterfeit currency, while investigations continue to trace the origin of the counterfeit money and determine whether there are other accomplices.
