Campania is among the FAI's 'Places of the Heart': a heritage to be saved and enhanced.

The "Places of the Heart" survey, promoted by the Italian Environment Fund (FAI) in collaboration with Intesa Sanpaolo, returns this year, highlighting the hidden treasures of Italy's cultural and environmental heritage. Among the most active and represented regions, Campania stands out with a series of sites of great historical, artistic, and social significance, often in a state of disrepair and in need of restoration.

Villa Pignatelli di Montecalvo in San Giorgio a Cremano leads the region's ranking: an 18th-century noble residence that evokes the Vesuvian era of splendor, but is now in a serious state of neglect. The complex, also known for being the setting for major films such as Matteo Garrone's "Reality," is protected by a dedicated committee that promotes voter support for its enhancement.

No less important are other places dedicated to the Holy Trinity in Campania, such as the Church of Santa Maria Visita Poveri in Ottaviano, with 18th-century frescoes and a history linked to the San Michele district, or the Castello delle Pietre di Capua, an imposing Norman fortress built with materials from ancient Roman Capua.

In Maddaloni, the Giordano Bruno National Boarding School is an educational and cultural landmark, with frescoes and an impressive painted ceiling that testify to the complex's rich history. In the heart of Naples, the Church of Sant'Aniello a Caponapoli, located on the city's ancient acropolis, combines archaeological and religious significance, while in Salerno, the Church of Sant'Anna al Porto keeps maritime traditions and local devotion alive.

Among the most important artistic assets, the Polyptych of Mercede in Naples stands out for the oldest representation of the procession of San Gennaro, a masterpiece that urgently requires conservation work.

With over 350.000 votes already collected since mid-May, the initiative invites citizens, associations, and institutions to participate until December 15th through the official website www.iluoghidelcuore.it or with paper forms at collection points.

The project, sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and supported by RAI as Main Media Partner, aims to promote the protection of lesser-known sites that are fundamental to Italy's cultural identity, also supporting restoration projects with grants of up to €70.000.

Intesa Sanpaolo, a longtime partner of FAI since 2004, continues to support the enhancement of Italy's heritage through cultural and financial programs, confirming its commitment to the growth of local communities and the preservation of historical and artistic assets.
