GIUGLIANO IN CAMPANIA – More resources for the local police force, new checks on the territory, and a stronger law enforcement presence. This is the request of the Democratic Party of Giugliano in Campania to address the emergency of toxic fires and illegal dumping in the so-called Land of Fires.
In a note addressed to the national, regional, and metropolitan secretariats of the Democratic Party, the city council group and the local party community emphasize the need to fully implement the special law on the Land of Fires, especially the section dedicated to strengthening the municipal police force.
"It is essential to implement the special Terra dei Fuochi law, particularly the part related to strengthening the local police force, given the already insufficient number of personnel for the area's ordinary needs," the Democratic representatives emphasize.
According to the Giugliano Democratic Party, to ensure effective action against illegal environmental activities, resources must be allocated to hiring new traffic police in the municipalities in the provinces of Naples and Caserta most exposed to critical issues. This measure is deemed necessary to allow mayors to carry out more comprehensive controls and combat micro-spills.
The party also calls for an expansion of the "Safe Streets" operation contingent, with the maintenance and strengthening of Army support in the most densely populated areas of the northern outskirts of Naples and the Giugliano area.
The document also emphasizes waste management and the role of recycling centers. "This type of service needs to be funded, supported, and expanded," the Democratic Party emphasizes, explaining that a more efficient network of collection points could be an important factor in preventing some citizens from resorting to illegal waste disposal.
A specific chapter then concerns waste from illegal construction and the phenomenon of "cellar clearing," activities which, according to the party, must be monitored more closely to verify the final destination of the collected materials.
The final request is for a comprehensive strategy involving checks, video surveillance, and a constant presence in the area. "A greater law enforcement presence and an active, widespread, and efficient network of cameras are essential," concludes the Giugliano Democratic Party's statement.
