Rita De Crescenzo and the little monkey
The media storm surrounding Rita De Crescenzo continues unabated, having returned to the spotlight after several videos published during her stay in Egypt in which she appeared with a pet monkey.
The story quickly transcended social media, fueling a heated debate about the appropriateness of using wild animals in content intended for online audiences.
Francesco Emilio Borrelli, MP for the Green Left Alliance, intervened, announcing that he would file a complaint with the Naples Public Prosecutor's Office and the Italian Embassy in Cairo, requesting an investigation into the matter.
Borrelli also challenged the publication of the content on social media, calling it unacceptable and stressing the need to comply with animal welfare regulations and the keeping and movement of species.
The case has also attracted attention from a health perspective. In recent days, infectious disease specialist Matteo Bassetti had drawn attention to the potential risks associated with contact with exotic animals, highlighting the possibility of transmitting infectious agents.
An aspect that has helped to further amplify the discussion around the videos posted by the TikToker.
Rita De Crescenzo's response came in a new video, in which the creator clarified that she had already returned to Naples and had not brought the monkey with her.
"I'm in Naples and the monkey stayed in Egypt, it won't come back with me," he declared, expressing surprise at the news of the complaint.
The TikToker then rejected the idea that she acted with the intention of illegally importing the animal or causing harm to it. According to her version, her behavior was dictated solely by the desire to help a puppy in need.
In his outburst on social media, De Crescenzo asserted his good faith and rejected the accusations leveled against him.
"But what are you reporting? You're just consumed by jealousy and anger. I'm a good person," he said in the video.
The creator then concluded by addressing her followers directly: “These are dark times, think about doing good.”
The TikToker's clarification, however, doesn't formally close the matter. The complaint announced by Borrelli opens the way for potential investigations by the competent authorities.
It will be up to the relevant authorities to verify the nature of the behavior documented in the videos, the animal's condition, and whether it complies with Italian, Egyptian, and international regulations regarding the protection and movement of wildlife.
For now, therefore, two competing versions remain: on one hand, the objections raised by the parliamentarian and the debate on social media; on the other, Rita De Crescenzo's position, who claims she acted solely to help the monkey and specifies that she left it in Egypt.
