Antonio Magnetti, a 62-year-old local man already familiar to law enforcement, found himself in trouble. The man, who holds a street vendor license, firmly resisted the administrative checks initiated by municipal officers.

Upon hearing the impending fines, the shopkeeper went berserk: completely oblivious to the dozens of people present and the smartphones pointed at him, he began throwing vegetables and fruit crates to the ground, destroying his stall setup and scattering the goods across public property.

The scene, captured on passersby's cell phones, quickly ricocheted across social media, going viral within hours. To restore calm and secure the area, the Carabinieri had to intervene directly, and they managed to subdue the man, albeit with some difficulty.

The arrest and the context of the protests

After being restrained, the 62-year-old was taken to the Secondigliano prison on charges of resisting a public official. In addition to the criminal charges, he faced several administrative charges: illegal street vending, illegal occupation of public land, failure to notify a health authority, and violation of food safety regulations due to the exposure of goods to pollutants.
