The illegal parking lot in Pignatella has been sealed off: the Sorrento Municipality has ordered its immediate evacuation and closure.

The illegal parking issue in Pignatella, Sorrento, has reached a turning point. Following the spotlight shone last week following the complaint and on-site inspection by Green-Left MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli—who documented the presence of a paid parking garage operating entirely without permits on a restricted area—the municipal administration has taken decisive action.

The media and institutional pressure resulting from the inspection uncovered a large amount of traffic in an agricultural area of ​​high landscape value, frequented daily by hundreds of swimmers heading to the Marina di Puolo bay. One of the parking lot's owners was also charged at large with attempted corruption.

The ordinance: immediate stop and blocking of access

The administration's formal response is contained in Executive Order No. 177 of August 11, 2026, issued by the IV Department of the Municipality of Sorrento pursuant to Legislative Decree 267/2000. The measure establishes an immediate ban on the illegal parking and paid garage operation on the agricultural property located on Via Marina di Puolo (identified in the Land Registry on Sheet 1, parcels 339, 818, and 820).

The act is not limited to a simple ban on practice, but provides for concrete coercive measures:

Forced evacuation of the area: immediate clearing of any vehicles present.

Physical barriers to access: closing of access points to prevent the continuation of illegal parking.

Formal challenge: the order identifies the responsibilities of the owners of the property (Messrs. PF and GMS) and of the individuals who carried out unauthorized commercial management (Messrs. PM and PM).

All original documents remain on file at the Sorrento Municipal Anti-Abuse Office and can be viewed by authorized parties.

Restoration of legality and protection of the territory

The intervention at Pignatella is a clear signal in the fight against the phenomenon of unauthorized parking that plagues the Sorrento Peninsula during the summer season. The improper transformation of agricultural land and natural areas into paid parking areas without building or commercial permits not only violates environmental and urban planning regulations, but also generates illicit profit at the expense of public safety and the landscape.
