Naples: A drug-laden drone was intercepted in Poggioreale.
Naples – A new attempted illegal delivery has taken place at the Naples-Poggioreale prison. The Penitentiary Police successfully thwarted the smuggling of drugs and a cell phone by intercepting a state-of-the-art drone. However, the aircraft managed to escape. The announcement was made by the USPP, President Giuseppe Moretti and Regional Secretary Ciro Auricchio.
Anti-drone officers located and intercepted the vehicle, recovering its cargo: 300 grams of hashish and a state-of-the-art smartphone. The drone evaded capture.
"The repetition of similar attempts," commented Moretti and Auricchio, "highlights the need to maintain high levels of vigilance and strengthen prevention and countermeasures to protect the safety of institutions and the community."
For the two unionists, the episode "confirms beyond any reasonable doubt that a technological war is underway in the prison skies," with organized crime using increasingly cutting-edge tools to evade prison security systems.
For the USPP, it is now "absolute and urgent" to strengthen perimeter control systems, employ adequate high-tech tools, and strengthen the organizational structure.
Trade unionists point out that Poggioreale prison houses 2.300 inmates, despite a statutory capacity of 1.600, and is understaffed by 200.
