Benevento, shots fired at a bar: the 22-year-old returns to prison a few hours after his release.

Valerio Pagnozzi, a 22-year-old from Benevento, was arrested again by the State Police shortly after leaving prison, following the decision of the Court of Review to dismiss the previous precautionary measure due to a defect in the notification. The order was executed at the behest of the Benevento Public Prosecutor's Office, which determined that there was still serious evidence of guilt and a real risk of him fleeing.

The events of August 27

According to investigators' reconstruction, the shooting occurred on the evening of August 27th inside the Wikka club in Benevento's Parco De Mita. Pagnozzi apparently intervened during an assault related to previous disputes with the victim, a 27-year-old, firing at least two shots at close range, targeting vital parts of the body.

The man was shot in the left hand but managed to escape by hiding behind the bar counter. He was taken to the Sacred Heart of Jesus-Fatebenefratelli Hospital, where he underwent surgery.

From freedom to new lockdown

The Flying Squad's investigation—based on witness statements, wiretaps, forensic findings, and ballistic tests—led to the 22-year-old's initial arrest on September 11th, which was later confirmed with pre-trial detention.

However, the Court of Review subsequently ruled that the measure was ineffective solely due to a procedural flaw in the notification of the hearing postponement. According to the Prosecutor's Office, the decision did not affect the consistency of the evidence gathered by investigators.

Given the seriousness of the charges—attempted murder and illegal possession of a firearm—and the risk of escape, especially given the measures the young man took to make himself untraceable after the shooting, the Prosecutor's Office has issued a new arrest warrant.

Officers then arrested Pagnozzi immediately after his formal release and remanded him to the Benevento Prison, pending a sentencing hearing. The case is still in the preliminary investigation phase: the suspect is presumed innocent until a final conviction.
