Naples, accident on Via Terracina: seven cars involved, one injured

Naples – A sudden boom in the middle of the evening and a devastating pile-up that transformed the roadway into a pile of twisted metal. One person was hospitalized and seven vehicles were damaged in the traffic accident that occurred last night on Via Terracina, in the Naples neighborhood of Fuorigrotta.

The artery remained completely blocked for hours, disrupting traffic throughout the city to allow for delicate rescue operations and routine surveys.

The dynamics of the clash

According to initial investigations by law enforcement, the pileup was triggered by a reckless maneuver. An elderly driver, attempting to overtake, crossed into the oncoming lane and collided head-on with a Hyundai that was approaching in the opposite direction.

The force of the impact caused an immediate domino effect: a third passing car first ended up in the trajectory, then the uncontrolled rush of the vehicles overwhelmed four other cars legally parked at the side of the road.

Rescue efforts among the sheet metal

The scene that first responders encountered was dramatic, with body debris strewn across the asphalt for dozens of meters. The most critical situation involved the driver of the Hyundai, who remained trapped in the deformed passenger compartment.

To free him, medical personnel and firefighters had to work together, forcing open the door with a crowbar. Once freed, the man was stabilized on the scene by an ambulance and rushed to the nearby emergency room of San Paolo Hospital for treatment.

Investigations and measures

Municipal Police officers responded to the scene to manage the emergency and reconstruct the exact sequence of events. The White Helmets interviewed witnesses and acquired video surveillance footage from both public and private premises in the area, which was crucial to accurately ascertaining trajectories and responsibilities.

All vehicles involved in the pileup have been placed under administrative seizure to allow for further technical assessments. The elderly driver of the car that attempted to overtake has had his license suspended pending judicial orders. He has also been subjected to the required toxicology and medical tests to assess his physical and mental condition at the time of the impact.
