Rocks on the Naples-Soccavo-Pianura link road: two cars grazed

A stretch of the Soccavo-Pianura ring road in Naples was the scene of a near tragedy when large rocks fell into the center of the roadway, likely having been dislodged from nearby cliffs by the latest waves of bad weather.

Two cars narrowly avoided a collision thanks to the drivers' quick reflexes. Footage of the incident, captured by a dashcam on board one of the cars, was posted on social media by MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli of the Green-Left Alliance and quickly went viral.

“The drivers involved are alive by a miracle,” Borrelli said, emphasizing that the drivers’ quick reflexes prevented potentially tragic consequences.

The safety of motorists and motorcyclists, particularly along main roads and expressways, must be a top priority. The edges of these roads must be monitored regularly and made safe.

Furthermore, if debris breaks or falls, it's unthinkable that anyone will notice in time. A timely monitoring and reporting system is needed to immediately remove obstacles and avoid potentially fatal accidents. "The safety of those traveling on our roads cannot be left to chance or good luck," the MP concluded.
