"Tomorrow there will be a meeting between the Government and the unions, with the presence of the Prime Minister. The appeal we are making to Gentiloni is to accede to the request to move the decision to raise the retirement age to 67 years."
This was stated in a note by the president of the Labor Committee of the Chamber, Cesare Damiano (PD), observing that "it would be a good signal to millions of citizens". Damiano points out, in particular: "We are only asking to postpone the decision to June 2018, in order to carefully evaluate the choices to be made.
Ours, together with that of the unions, is not an abstract or demagogic choice, but is based on some facts: the first is that in 2015 life expectancy has unfortunately decreased and the same is happening in 2017". According to the former Minister of Labor "this is a good opportunity to sit around a table, with the social partners, to study the problem and six months are needed by all. June 2018 could be the right date, considering the fact that the increase to 67 years will have to start from 2019".
