Naples. One of the main figures of the Camorra “System” within the Neapolitan hospitals was Marco Salvati, (one of those arrested the other day in the maxi blitz of Dda) and owner of the ambulance service Saint Pio Cross which practically operated under a monopoly regime.

“Because Marchetiello takes the money and it arrives in the system, it arrives at the
prisoners… Did you understand or not? Marchehitiello plays the part of the prisoners…”, are the words intercepted in the car of John Caruson one of the leaders of the Cimmino clan of Vomero speaking with one of his interlocutors. On external competition in Camorra association and on the figure of Marco Salvati in the precautionary order of the investigating judge Claudio Marcopido dozens of pages are dedicated to it.

“…he was found to be the undisputed master of the patient transport sector within the Cardarelli hospital… Furthermore, in light of the monopoly regime in which Salvati managed his business, it emerged that he systematically paid sums of money to the Cimmino Caiazzo clan”, writes the investigating judge.

The investigation into Salvati's role within the Cimmino clan starts from the complaint of the owner of a competing company. On October 16, 2018 he puts on record: "I would like to point out that Marco Salvati is known to me as a member of the 'Lo Russo Clan' which dominates the area of Miano in Naples, the same area where I have always lived, so consequently I have always suffered its impositions. I remember that around 2015 Marco Salvati was released, after a long period of imprisonment due to his previous judicial vicissitudes. I was at the 'Loreto' hospital. Mare 'It was the month of March or April 2016 when I saw Marco Salvati arrive at the hospital in his ambulance Croce San Pio Marco Salvati parking got out of his ambulance came towards me and said these exact words: "You see, these friends have to deliver an embassy, I don't know what it's about, you can see what they say".

Salvati walked away from me and went back to his ambulance and the two on the motorbike began with the following sentence: 'You see, you absolutely must not allow yourself to go to the hospital area, not even if you get hurt must you show up at Cardarelli and the hospitals in the area. You can't work anymore, if you allow yourself to show up at Cardarelli again you'll have to deal with Marco Salvati's friends'.

And the entrepreneur then specifies:  “It wasn’t the first time I was threatened on behalf of Mano Salvati, but knowing the character and considering him a Camorrista in all respects, I got the message and stayed away from the hospital area, where Marco Salvati had set up his private ambulance business….”.

Boss Basile: “In the hospitals of Naples we have our own things and we must stay calm”

On another occasion and the same regent of the clan Andrea Basile to introduce himself to Monaldi and explain to the owner of another company that “You must not be seen in the hospitals anymore, only Marco Salvati must work in the hospitals because we must be calm. We have our own things in the hospitals and we don't like it when problems are created. Do we understand each other?”.

But Marco Salvati's thirst for expansion does not stop at the hospitals in the Hills. Thanks to the support of a local boss he also enters theAversa hospital even if he doesn't have an easy life: he is also threatened but in the end he manages to work with his ambulances even at Moscati paying a percentage to the local Camorra.

Is always John Caruson who, speaking in his car without knowing he was being wiretapped, provides the details to the investigators: “…Marco must practice only with him (Gigino) to enter sweetly sweetly without making a mess. When they speak with Marco they will ask him if he wants the hundred euros back and they will say click he (Marco) did not say anything, then Caruson will tell Marco that if he wants them back he must go only for Clemente's calls he must not do anything else. If instead he intends to work, to try to open a breach or if he does not open a breach, he does a favor to them because he puts them on the street to get money from them, because he (Marco) will always get some favor too, like making some trips (to the hospital) without having to give an account to anyone. He will also have to give a gift to Gigino at the end of the month, based on the trips made…”.

The investigators deduce the strong bond between Marco Salvati and the boss Andrea Basile from yet another intercepted conversation between John CarusonVincenzo Puts, another prominent member of the Vomero gang. The two spoke about the ambulance service also carried out at the hospital Old Pellegrini with the approval of the Romano family Spanish Neighborhoods they say:

Giovanni: These people who made the threat?
Vincenzo: yes those who made the threat now if the man is Zenith, he is chalk lined he must say now now take the ambulance and get out of here!
Giovanni: Marco doesn't get into the wrong place, because he knows that Andrea (Basile) will take everything away from him. Do you understand or not? Marco was saved by Cimmino's mouth, by Cimmino's fire...
Vincenzo: Was he eating himself too?
Giovanni: Cimmino? He had him beaten four or five times… Marchetiello all crippled, all broken
Vincenzo: But why?
Giovanni: Because he and the son of …the singer's nephew, …omissis…, got involved with the ambulances.
Giovanni: together with Cimmino's son, they created another cooperative and took all the ambulances... all of Marchetiello's ambulances!
Vincenzo: Is that why all those people were working on the ambulances?,.. there in the middle of Arenella!
Giovanni: Then we arrived and put things in order! We took all the ambulances and gave them back to Marchetiello! No less than that, he didn't make himself loved by anyone, he destroyed the Vomero...
but has he left now?
yes yes
did you tell him to go this way? straight on?
and when did he call you?
and before you didn't see it was him..I told him buddy get to the hospital first and then to the bar I'll tell you
where you have to go!
Giovanni: Did he arrive at the hospital?
Vincenzo then he calls me!
Giovanni: then I say no, he still has to get to the hospital!
OMISSIS

Furthermore, the conversation once again highlights the consolidated hegemony of the Cimmino Caiazzo clan over some Neapolitan hospitals. In a broader discussion dedicated to the “permits” to be granted or “exchanged” between clans, the two criminals, discussing the possibility that a company from Aversa (not mentioned) could intend to work at the hospitals in the hills, stated: “never come to take ambulances to Cardarelli because I'll run you under the slicer... if you don't come at all, it's better that you refuse the trip to Cardarelli, Cotugno, Monaldi”.

And finally the most explicit conversation between Caruson and Pone dated September 20, 2017. The two in the car referred to a “job” worth 3 thousand euros that “Marco delle ambulanze” would have to give in exchange for the “favor” received. There is also a very clear reference to the systematic transfer of sums of money to the Cimmino-Caiazzo-Basile clan by Salvati Marco.

John Caruson: If these guys don't get anything from the ambulances, this morning we made him do a great job, we made him do it
Vincenzo Puts: Ah!
John Caruson: Marchetiello gives him a nice job at 3000 euros. This one called him: “Marchetiello, you still have to give this guy 200 euros a week”. Or not?
Vincenzo Puts: let's see who we have to fool...
John Caruson: let's see who we have to throw in… and who is it? Let's do ourselves a favor and not take any notice because Marchetiello takes out the money and it arrives in the system, it arrives to the prisoners… Do you understand or not? Marehitiello plays the part of the prisoners…
Vincenzo Puts: They arrive in Andrea's box…
Caruso: Eh…and that's already a lot!
