The collaboration between Casa del Contemporaneo/Le Nuvole and the Emergency theatre, and Emergency Gruppo Napoli, is renewed on the occasion of the staging – recommended for an audience aged 14 and over – on Friday 3 December at 19.30 pm in the Theater of the Little in the Mostra d'Oltremare, of the theatrical show Pia and Damascus the proceeds of which will be donated to Emergency Ong Onlus.
Against the backdrop of the Tuscan pine forest of Tombolo, in 1947 when the war has just ended, the story of a love story between Pia and Damasco turns into a lucid reflection on the consequences that accompany wars of every era. In a single act of 70 minutes, Pia and Damasco tell their true and painful stories, at times comical.
She is a 'young lady' and from the hospital where she will be admitted for venereal diseases she tells the story of the world of Tombolo and the drama of the women who, driven by poverty, accompany American soldiers.
Damascus is a mine sweeper. Even though the war is over, Italy is littered with explosive devices and the Americans leave the task of clearing it to the Italians. Through their words, the two protagonists show the public the war for what it really is: an inhuman instrument that only triggers spirals of violence and degradation. On stage Matteo Palazzo and Silvia Napoletano, the direction and dramaturgy are by Patrizia Pasqui.
Founded in 2000, the Emergency Theatre Company pursues the idea that theatre can become a tool to enhance and disseminate the more complex work of Emergency – active since 1994 – in ensuring free, high-quality medical and surgical care for the victims of war, landmines and poverty, pursuing a constant awareness-raising action against war.
The Teatro dei Piccoli's programming, created in agreement with the Municipality of Naples and the management of the Mostra d'Oltremare, will continue in December with a rich offer of shows and concerts before and during the Christmas holidays.
The ticket costs 8 euros – the proceeds will be donated to Emergency Ong Onlus – and reservations are mandatory at 08118903126 or 3270795871 and info@teatrodeipiccoli.it. Entrance allowed exclusively with Green Pass and mask. www.teatrodeipiccoli.it
