The nativity scenes of San Gregorio Armeno 'land' in Fiumicino. From 25/11 the faithful reproductions of the historical works in Naples San Gregorio Armeno, the historic street of Naples that lives all year round in the name of the eighteenth-century tradition of the nativity scene, "land" in Fiumicino.
From November 25 to January 8, 2023, in fact, the social promotion association “Le Botteghe di San Gregorio Armeno” will create a faithful reproduction of the original works inside the Da Vinci Park. It will therefore be possible to stroll, throughout the Christmas period, among the workshops of the master craftsmen who have been carrying on a unique tradition for five generations: that of the nativity scene.
The work, in fact, begins with the preparation of the wooden and cork structure on which the scenography composed of the various scenes of the nativity scene is built and painted (the hut, the columns of the decaying temple, the characteristic homes of 700th century Naples). The whole thing is then set up with shepherds, animals and details: tools, baskets of food, chairs, tables and various objects. Everything is rigorously handmade and looked after by each shopkeeper, as they are used to doing in their own workshop.
Along with the shepherds, the hut, the ox and the donkey… it will also be possible to admire the new figurines of Carrà and Queen Elizabeth II. The practice of reproducing current events was born at the time of “Clean Hands”, when the first real person still alive was created, the magistrate Antonio di Pietro. Since 92 it has become a tradition and now prominent public figures, such as footballers, actors, world-famous entrepreneurs and protagonists at the centre of today's tabloids, began to populate the nativity scenes.
