The statue in Piazza Bellini was defaced during the “rehearsals” for the celebrations for the Scudetto

After Lazio's defeat against Inter, Napoli-Salernitana could have been the match that would have officially handed the tricolor to the Neapolitans and in fact the city had already prepared for the party with an invasion of fans throughout the historic center and Fuorigrotta, outside the Maradona stadium.

The celebration, obviously, is only postponed but even though it was only a "dress rehearsal" there were still some "incidents" such as the one that occurred in Piazza Bellini where, as Il Mattino reports, the base of the statue was defaced with spray paint which, among other things, created the writing "Forza Napoli".

“The championship could be mathematically certain between tonight and tomorrow (May 3 and 4) and then the party could officially begin. Maximum alert therefore”, declares the deputy of the Green-Sinistra alliance Francesco Emilio Borrelli – “The celebrations are sacrosanct but must take place in full respect of the rules, civility and legality.

No accidents or damage to heritage should be tolerated. The sites of greatest historical and cultural interest should be protected. The celebration should be for the true fans, for the city, for those who love Naples but not for imbeciles,” concluded Borrelli.
