Yesterday evening, at the Juvenile Detention Center in Airola, an inmate set fire to a sleeping cell, causing disorder and fear, for reasons that will be better ascertained.
The intervention of the Penitentiary Police was timely and avoided the worst. The Carabinieri, firefighters and ambulance also intervened on site. The news was reported by Giuseppe Merola, national director of the Federazione Sindacati Autonomi CNPP who "claims the need for improvement policies for the Penitentiary Police personnel of Airola, who operate ab illo tempore in situations of absolute precariousness, dictated by various organizational and logistical factors".
This morning, in fact, at 10.00, a national delegation of the FSA CNPP will carry out a visit to the workplace in Airola, in order to verify the working conditions of the Penitentiary Police, and will also meet the new Director who took office at the beginning of October.
“Solidarity and closeness to the prison officers of Airola – concludes Domenico Pelliccia, Deputy General Secretary of the Federation of Autonomous Trade Unions CNPP – but we can no longer tolerate these continuous exposures to dangerous risks. The Department of Juvenile and Community Justice must take note of what is happening in various areas of the country. Urgent measures are needed”.
