Caserta, illegal immigration: over 200 reported

More than 200 people have been reported in the operation conducted by the Carabinieri Caserta, aimed at dismantling a criminal organization that facilitated illegal immigration.

Of these, seven are the recipients of precautionary measures, while the others remain under investigation at large. The investigation began with a report from a driving school, which had been asked to verify the authenticity of a stamp on a certification.

The investigation began in 2018 and ended in 2021. Many of the foreigners who used the services of the criminal association dismantled in the Caserta area for the purpose of facilitating illegal immigration were residents of northern Italy. They traveled to the south to take advantage of this sort of “preferential channel” that allowed them to illegally speed up procedures for the renewal of residence permits.

The so-called agency operated from a house in the Agro Aversano, part of the investigated. The system was based on word of mouth; through citizens who had previously used the services, other interested parties were contacted, to whom the promoter offered assistance for the subsequent phases.

In exchange, a percentage of the clients managed was requested, distributed among various members of the criminal organization. The payment was made in several installments.
