In a few hours the military of the Carabinieri Forestry Unit of Castel Volturno (Caserta) – with the collaboration of the special sworn voluntary hunting guards of WWF Italy, provincial coordination of Caserta – have proceeded to report four people intent on hunting using prohibited electromagnetic acoustic decoys. Three people, armed with as many hunting rifles, were caught in Villa Literno attracting thrushes with an electromagnetic acoustic decoy.

Another person was found hunting thrushes in Carinola, in the Ventaroli hamlet, again illegally taking advantage of an electromagnetic acoustic decoy. A total of four hunting rifles and related ammunition, three prohibited electromagnetic acoustic decoys reproducing the sound of a thrush, eleven specimens of shot fauna (song thrushes), and carcasses destroyed by burial were seized.

The four poachers were reported at large for the crime of hunting with the aid of prohibited decoys, as provided for by the Rules for the Protection of Homeothermic Wild Fauna and for Hunting. These electromagnetic acoustic decoys are prohibited precisely because of their high capacity to deceive avifauna as they spread the sound of their fellow birds at a considerable distance, inducing them to approach near the sound source where they are easily killed.
