This morning a fire shook the neighborhood of Via Marina in Naples, with flames engulfing the base of the historic Torre Aragonese. The episode has caused concern among residents and has drawn the attention of local authorities to the critical situation in the area. According to reports, the fire involved piles of waste and makeshift beds used by the homeless who regularly frequent the area.

This serious accident has put in serious danger not only the lives of the homeless people, but also one of the most important historical monuments of the city. The reaction was not long in coming: numerous citizens and firefighters intervened on site to put out the flames and avoid further damage to the Aragonese Tower.

The video of the fire was sent to Francesco Emilio Borrelli, MP for the Green Left Alliance, who raised the issue at institutional level. "We must act urgently to restore normalcy to this situation of degradation and precariousness that characterizes the Torre Aragonese site ," said Borrelli.

“The protection of monumental assets must be a priority for Naples, and those who live in difficult conditions must be assisted and protected. It is essential to move the homeless from this area to guarantee their safety and that of the residents and tourists who frequent the place.”
