Pizzeria Danese closed in Portici for “pizza smell”: the story goes viral

Share

The closing of the Danish Pizzeria arcade, in via Libertà, has sparked a series of reactions among citizens and web users in recent weeks, so much so that it has become a viral case.

The owners of the pizzeria, following the mayoral order that imposed the suspension of the activity, posted a sign that read "closed due to the smell of pizza", fueling rumors and suppositions about the real reasons for the closure.

Many have hypothesized a bureaucratic obstinacy, causing a wave of posts and comments on local social groups, in which users have expressed solidarity with the owners of the pizzeria, defining the closure of a gastronomic business for the simple reason of perceived odors as absurd and unjustified.

The municipal councilor of the 5 Star Movement of Portici, Iolanda Meglio, intervened to clarify the facts and dispel any doubts: “There was no bureaucratic persecution against Pizzeria Danese.

I understand the disappointment and the need to find a culprit, but the reasons for the closure are clear and based on concrete findings. The ASL checks, in fact, found serious problems related to the emission of non-regulated fumes – Meglio reiterates.

The pizzeria was not equipped with a standard chimney, and the fumes were directed directly into the homes above, creating considerable discomfort for the residents. These emissions, based on Article 674 of the Penal Code, were considered a threat to public health. What we cannot explain is the mayor's silence on this matter, since in similar situations he has expressed himself widely, but this time he chose silence".

The issue has been discussed several times within the Regional Anti-Camorra Commission, as persistent irregularities have been highlighted, which have not been remedied despite repeated interventions by the competent authorities.

The problems identified mainly concern the failure to install a suitable flue, which should have carried the combustion fumes above the roof of the building, and not near the windows of the surrounding apartments.
