Researchers' Night at the Michelangelo Museum and Caserta Planetarium

Here's another interactive museum experience designed to showcase the "sister" sciences of the Middle Ages and Renaissance, the liberal arts. Another ideal relay between the Michelangelo Museum and the Caserta Planetarium, following the successful one for Appia Day on Sunday, September 22, 2024.

An initiative of the State Technical Institute “Buonarroti”

The two museums, the Michelangelo Museum and the Caserta Planetarium, are both managed by the Istituto Tecnico Statale “Buonarroti”. The latter is also the owner of the museum and is the leader of the temporary association for the purpose entrusted on behalf of the Municipality of Caserta for the management of the planetarium.

Event at the Michelangelo Museum: Can you do math?

The day will begin with the event “Can you do calculations?” scheduled at the Michelangelo Museum. It will be a guided and interactive tour that will involve participants with two shifts scheduled for 17.30:18.30 pm and 40:XNUMX pm, lasting about XNUMX minutes each. Visitors will have the opportunity to discover how, before the advent of pocket calculators and computers, our ancestors performed mathematical operations, from the simplest additions and subtractions, to complex multiplications, to the hated logarithms and trigonometry. The visit will be enriched by the presence of precious calculating machines exhibited in the museum, some of which were recently donated by Prof. Giuseppe Bonetti.

Moving to the Planetarium: Medievalia / Heavenly Harmonies 2

After a break for a snack and a short walk, the event entitled “Medievalia / Armonie celesti 2” will be held at the Caserta Planetarium. This event was conceived by the Planetarium in collaboration with the cultural associations “Ave Gratia Plena” and “Francesco Durante”, both famous for their thirty years of uninterrupted activity. The event will be mainly dedicated to the liberal arts of astronomy and music, highlighting their relationships with algebra and geometry. Two shifts of visits are scheduled for 20:20.30 pm and 25:80 pm, with a maximum of XNUMX participants per shift and a duration of approximately XNUMX minutes. A journey through ancient musical instruments and scientific connections

Led by musicians in period costumes, participants will be able to visit an exhibition of medieval and Renaissance musical instruments, listen to their sounds and, for those who want, even try to play them. This will be followed by a conference that will illustrate the links between mathematics and music and a show in the planetarium dome to explore the links between music and astronomy.
