Naples, Federico II University is third in the world for Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences

Federico II is ranked third in the world for Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences in the GRAS (Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2024), compiled by the Shanghai Ranking. This is the best result ever among Italian universities.

And in the top 50 the university federiciano also wins two other important placings: in 26th place there is Aerospace Engineering and in 36th place Agricultural Sciences.

The biggest leap forward, however, was made by 'Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences', which ranks third in the world in the Medical Sciences section: in 2023 it was ranked in the 76-100 range.

Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences is third ahead of prestigious universities such as Kings College London, the University of Cambridge and Johns Hopkins University and behind only Harvard University and Peking Union Medical College of China.

The major contribution to the success of Federico II comes from the research conducted at the Department of Pharmacy, currently directed by Professor Angelo Antonio Izzo and for the last six years by Professor Angela Zampella.

Structure that has twice obtained the recognition of Department of Excellence by the Ministry of University and Research (for the years 2018-2022 and 2023-2027), thus creating the conditions for a multidisciplinary research ecosystem in the areas of chemistry and biology, focusing on the integration of knowledge in the field of pharmaceutical sciences, from the early design phases to complete preclinical development.

In 2024, Federico II was included among the top 100 universities in the Shanghai academic ranking with eight subjects.

In addition to Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Aerospace Engineering and Agricultural Sciences, Physics, Civil Engineering and Veterinary Sciences also ranked well, between 51st and 75th place, followed by Food Sciences and Technologies and Materials Engineering between 76th and 100th.

In the general ranking, the University of Federico II maintains the position it achieved in 2023, which places it between 201st and 300th in the world.
The 2024 ranking classified more than 1.900 universities out of 5.000 from 96 countries and examined 55 subjects divided into the sections natural sciences, engineering, life sciences, medical sciences and social sciences.
