Naples, Renato Caiafa's tears: "I don't even know how the shot started"

Naples. It was his aunt who convinced him to turn himself in after a few hours of escape. Renato Caiafa, 18, Arcangelo Correra's cousin, tearfully confessed at the police station: “No, I didn't mean to fire that shot – and I don't know how it happened, I didn't even touch the trigger.
Now I'm desperate."

Since yesterday afternoon he has been in Poggioreale prison for carrying and possessing a clandestine weapon and receiving stolen goods and is being investigated for manslaughter. This last charge will probably be formulated by the investigating judge after the preliminary hearing that will take place tomorrow,

He then confessed to killing his cousin Arcangelo Correra but that he didn't mean to, it was an accident. They were testing the gun, being novices in the use of weapons. He cocked the gun (and in fact the police found an unexploded bullet on the ground) and the shot went off.

The crime scene is between Piazzetta Sedil Capuano and Via dei Tribunali. The protagonists are the victim Arcangelo Correra, the murderer Renato Caiafa and a 17 year old also relatives of the two.

After the shot, Renato Caiafa runs to the nearby Vecchio Pellegrini hospital where he leaves his dying cousin on a stretcher and runs away. Then he uses his cell phone to warn his family of what happened. He goes to an aunt's house, shaking all over. He tells them what happened. After calming him down, the woman convinces him to turn himself in to the police station.

The boy shows up and says where he hid the gun, the officers find it and he tearfully confesses how he killed his cousin. And then at just 18 years old he begins his new life as a prisoner in the Poggioreale prison.
