Drug dealing in Cilento discovered after a drug bust in the “Antonio Caputo” prison in Salerno: eleven convictions

11 convictions – between plea bargains and abbreviated sentences – in the southern area of ​​Cilento, which in 2022 was affected by a large drug trafficking. The investigations were conducted by the Carabinieri of the Agropoli Company, together with the military of the provincial command of Salerno. The defendants, in various capacities, were accused of managing a drug dealing network operating from the territory that extended from Agropoli Nord, therefore the gates of the Cilento, up to Capaccio, Paestum, Eboli, Campagna and Battipaglia, even touching the province of Avellino.

The investigative activity led to the recovery of over 1 kilo of drugs, with the involvement of six individuals reported to the administrative authorities for simple consumption, one reported at liberty and the arrest of eight people caught in the act of possession of narcotics for the purpose of dealing. During the operations, numerous 7,65 caliber ammunition and a common firearm were found. According to the prosecution, the drug dealing activity was not limited to the external territory, but also involved the “Antonio Caputo” prison in Salerno.

Here, the drugs were introduced during the conversations and destined for subsequent sale. An extortion episode was documented during the investigation, aimed at recovering sums of money from a buyer in relation to previous drug transactions. The sentences decided by the Gup, in the preliminary hearing, range from 2 to 4 years.
