Naples, protest at Gaiola to stop the doubling of the sewer discharge

The project to double the sewer discharge in the Natura 2000 Site between Gaiola and Nisida continues to raise controversy and demonstrations. Yesterday morning, in Coroglio, hundreds of people participated in a flash mob organized to ask for the suspension of this controversial intervention, part of a larger project to redevelop the area.

The initiative received the support of Europa Verde, which expressed its opposition to the project, calling it a “wicked choice”. According to the party representatives, the doubling of the discharge could put at risk important naturalistic treasures, such as Gaiola and Nisida, already subject to environmental pressures.

The event was promoted by CSI Gaiola Onlus together with the Associations of the Coordination for the Protection of the Sea “Chi Ten O' Mar”. Among the participants there are also the municipal councilors of Europa Verde Lorenzo Pascucci, Rino Nasti, Luca Bonetti and Gianni Caselli. The common goal is to obtain a review of the current project to guarantee the protection of the marine area concerned.
