Clement Mastella
Benevento– “The San Pio hospital must have a cardiac surgery department”. This is the appeal launched by the mayor of Benevento, Clemente Mastella, also president of the ASL Mayors Committee, addressed to the governor Vincenzo De Luca and the ASL manager Maria Morgante.
Mastella reports an anomaly: Benevento is the only Campania capital without a cardiac surgery unit, despite the fact that the cardiology department of San Pio boasts high professionalism and cutting-edge equipment.
"The cardiac surgery geography of Campania - explained Mastella - has two departments in the Avellino area, three in Caserta and greater coverage in Naples and Salerno. Patients from Sannio are forced to make expensive trips for interventions such as coronary bypasses or complex heart valve operations".
The mayor emphasizes that the hospital already has excellent haemodynamics, making the establishment of cardiac surgery a crucial step, together with the new faculty of medicine of the internal areas, to bridge the gap with other areas of Campania.
Mastella asks for a concrete signal in the next Corporate Act, so that the process can begin to provide Benevento with a structure that is essential for the health of its citizens.
