Toxic cloud in Caivano, the mayor of Acerra closes schools and parks

Acerra – Environmental alarm in the province of Naples after the fire that broke out in the last few hours in a company located in the ASI industrial area of Pascarola-Caivano.

What is worrying is the thick cloud of black smoke, visible from kilometers away, which prompted the authorities to activate a series of precautionary measures to protect public health.

After a summit with the Prefecture of Naples, the mayor of Acerra Titus of Errico signed an emergency ordinance with which orders the immediate closure of public and private parks, suspension of teaching activities for Thursday in all schools of all levels, and the closing of the city cemetery for the whole day.

Among other provisions:

• Prohibition on the use of water from unprotected tanks and wells for food purposes

• Recommendation to stay at home, avoiding staying in open spaces and on public roads

• Obligation to keep doors and windows closed, and do not use ventilation or air conditioning systems

• Thorough washing of fruit, vegetables and greens before consumption

Il Prefect of Naples, Michele di Bari, called the meeting in the afternoon Rescue Coordination Center, activating the protocol for the major health emergencies, prepared by the regional representative Giuseppe Galano, in anticipation of possible hospital admissions of people with symptoms of poisoning.

On the spot were attended by i Fire fighters, Police, 118, the Local Police of Caivano , Metropolitan Police of Naples. Meanwhile, theARPAC, with the manager Dario Mirella, has started environmental surveys to evaluate the impact of combustion on the air.

I mayors of neighboring municipalities are issuing similar ordinances, in accordance with the indications of the ASL, which recommends a rigorous assessment of school closures in all areas affected by the cloud. The situation remains under constant monitoring.
