Barra, three industrial warehouses on fire: black cloud invades the eastern area

Share

Naples - A violent fire of significant proportions engulfed three industrial warehouses located in the Barra neighborhood, in the eastern part of Naples, during the night, generating a dense and disturbing column of black smoke visible from numerous neighborhoods of the city and from neighboring municipalities.

The alarm was raised at 04:05, when the first report reached the Fire Brigade.

The flames, the origin of which is still being ascertained, affected three separate businesses in Via Volpicella: a company operating in the coffee sector, an electrical material warehouse and a company specializing in detergents.

The nature of the materials stored inside the warehouses contributed to rapidly fueling the fire and releasing a pungent, acrid smell of burnt plastic into the air, making the air unbreathable in the entire eastern area of Naples.

Eleven teams of Firefighters immediately converged on the scene, coming not only from the provincial command of Naples but also from the detachments of Salerno and Caserta, a testimony to the gravity of the situation.

Firefighters have been engaged for hours in an arduous battle against the flames to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading further to adjacent structures.

Fortunately, despite the size of the fire, there are currently no injuries or poisonings. The 118 emergency service personnel are present on site as a precaution, ready to intervene if necessary.

The thick cloud of black smoke continues to linger over the area, raising concerns among residents about air quality. Local authorities are recommending, as a precaution, to stay indoors with windows closed, especially for the most vulnerable groups of the population such as the elderly, children and people with pre-existing respiratory conditions.

The extinguishing operations are still ongoing and are expected to require several hours of work by the Fire Department to be completed safely.

Only once the flames have been extinguished will it be possible to begin investigations to ascertain the causes that triggered the devastating fire that brought three production activities to their knees and made the air unbreathable in a vast area of East Naples. There are fears of considerable economic damage for the companies involved.
