Benevento, homemade bomb in car: two Neapolitans arrested

Benevento – A powerful, ready-to-use homemade explosive device was seized by the Carabinieri during a road check in Benevento.

Two men, a 35-year-old and a 19-year-old from Naples, were arrested and locked up in prison on charges of possession of explosive material.

The episode occurred when the military set up a roadblock. The two, at the sight of the Carabinieri, attempted to escape by car. During the chase they tried to get rid of the bomb by throwing it out of the window. They were stopped after a short chase.

The device was immediately made safe by the bomb disposal experts of the Provincial Carabinieri Command of Caserta.

Subsequent house searches at the 35-year-old's home led to the discovery of: two more homemade explosive devices hidden in the garage. Potentially dangerous material.

Investigators are now working to reconstruct the origin of the explosives;
to ascertain the destination of the devices and finally verify any connections with criminal groups.
