After the triumph of Long live Rai2!, Rosario Fiorello surprises the public again with a new radio project: Radio2 Radio Show – The Pennicanza. On air on Rai Radio2 from Monday to Friday, from 13pm to 45pm, the program marks the return of the Sicilian showman to the microphone, flanked by the inseparable Fabrizio Biggio. The program is also available on RaiPlay and on digital terrestrial channel 14, with a shortened version, The Wake Up Call, broadcast the next morning from 7:00 to 7:30.
Article Key Points
The Pennicanza stands out for its experimental nature and lack of a pre-established schedule. Fiorello himself declared: «We don't have an idea, we are here to do… nothing, I don't know!» . This philosophy of creative chaos recalls the origins of Flower newsstand, when Fiorello recorded improvised videos with his cell phone, uploading them to YouTube. Just like then, the goal is to build a format in progress, leaving room for spontaneity and interaction with the public. The complicity with Fabrizio Biggio

Alongside Fiorello, Fabrizio Biggio confirms himself as an ideal support, capable of supporting and relaunching the showman's improvisations. Their understanding, already tested in Long live Rai2!, is renewed in this new radio context, offering moments of comedy and irony that recall the style of Renzo Arbore.
From the first episodes, The Pennicanza gave the audience hilarious gags and unexpected guests. Among these, a live phone call with Amadeus, jokingly nicknamed by Fiorello “Rai1’s Voldemort”, and an improvised theme song by Jovanotti, performed live with his band. There was no shortage of imitations of famous people, such as chef Cannavacciuolo and a “Calabrian” version of tennis player Jannik Sinner.
The Pennicanza is conceived as an experiment, initially planned for a week. However, the success of the first episodes could push Fiorello to continue the adventure, perhaps with a landing on television. The showman himself has hinted that the program could be a testing ground for an autumn project: «Today we are here, tomorrow who knows».
In a television landscape often accused of repetitiveness, Fiorello's return represents a breath of fresh air and creativity. His ability to reinvent himself and experiment with new languages confirms his central role in Italian entertainment. The public, fond of his unique style, hopes that The Pennicanza may continue beyond the planned week, bringing new life to the radio and, who knows, even to television.
