According to initial reconstructions, two people riding a motorbike intercepted the victim, a resident of the area with no criminal record, as he was getting ready to start his working day.

The target of the criminals seemed to be a valuable Rolex watch that the man was wearing on his wrist, but perhaps also a backpack-bag he was carrying, in which the robbers could have mistakenly imagined they would find further valuables.

The two, described as “professionals” of crime and not simple pickpockets, had probably planned the action in detail. They followed the 32-year-old and chose the right moment to act when he took Via Genova, in the network of streets between the business center and the station area.

Brazenly and regardless of the potential presence of law enforcement in a normally patrolled area, the bandits pulled up alongside the victim's scooter. The passenger pointed a gun at the jeweler's face, presumably with the intent of forcing him to stop and hand over his goods.

However, the 32-year-old had an unexpected reaction and attempted to escape the threat by accelerating the vehicle. At that point, the situation degenerated: the gunman did not hesitate to pull the trigger, wounding the victim in the right leg. Eyewitnesses reported scenes of panic, with people fleeing in terror, initially fearing a Camorra settling of scores.
