Naples – BBC crowns Scott McTominay as the “hero” of Napoli's fourth Scudetto. In a long article published on its website, the British broadcaster celebrates the Scottish midfielder, elected Serie A MVP, for his twelfth goal of the season against Cagliari, decisive for the Neapolitan triumph.

“He has cemented his place as a club legend,” the BBC writes, highlighting his “brave and inspired choice” to leave Manchester United last season for Napoli.

The city of Naples has adopted McTominay, dedicating shrines to him with fans in kilts and Scottish flags. Supporters have nicknamed him with affectionate nicknames such as “Scotto”, “McFratm” (McBro), “McTerminator” and even “bottle opener”. Among the curiosities, the BBC cites a sign displayed in a Neapolitan pizzeria in Edinburgh with the player’s face and the writing: “Naples. McTominay. Pizza: in this order”.

The Scottish media also celebrated the triumph of McTominay and his compatriot Billy Gilmour. The Scotsman wrote: “On a club level, only a European cup triumph by a Scottish team could eclipse what happened in Naples”. An acknowledgement that consecrated the two talents as national pride and idols of the Neapolitan fans.
