He is fit to stand trial and will have to face trial: Pasquale Punzo, investigated for the so-called Ercolano Massacre, has been declared capable of understanding and willing by the expert appointed by the judge for preliminary investigations of the Court of Naples.
The expert assessment was ordered as part of an evidentiary incident requested by the man's defense, which had raised doubts about his mental capacity at the time of the events and during the trial.
The technical response leaves no room for interpretation: Punzo has full procedural capacity and will therefore be able to face the debate in court. The GIP's decision strengthens the accusatory system against the alleged perpetrator of the tragic episode that shocked the Vesuvian community.
On the same day, the appeal to the Review Court presented by Punzo's lawyers to obtain the concession of house arrest was also rejected. The judges confirmed the precautionary measure in prison, considering the existence of the need for custody in consideration of the seriousness of the contested facts.
The investigation into Herculaneum massacre remains at the center of judicial and media attention, while the victims' family and the entire city await the start of the trial.
