They try to scam two elderly people in Pistoia, the couple frames them: fake lawyer of an organization based in Naples arrested

All it took was cold blood, lucidity and a silent phone call to 112 to transform two elderly spouses from Pistoia into protagonists of a perfect trap against a well-orchestrated scam. A criminal plan that crashed against the courage and intelligence of the one who should have been the victim.

It happened in recent days in the area under the jurisdiction of the Pescia police station. A man, pretending to be a carabiniere, called the couple with a story he had fabricated: the jewels that had been stolen from the couple the previous month – he said – had been found, but to get them back it would be necessary to pay 6.000 euros to a supposed “lawyer” in charge of their restitution.

The elderly husband, suspecting the deception, was not caught unprepared. He pretended to take the bait while his wife continued the conversation on the landline, and in the meantime he alerted 112 from his cell phone. The call was taken seriously and immediately transmitted to the Pescia police station, which launched a lightning operation.

The alleged "lawyer" arranged to meet the couple in front of the 'Cavalieri del Tau' hotel in Altopascio, in the province of Lucca. But instead of the expected envelope of cash, he found plainclothes officers ready to stop him. The man was arrested without the possibility of escape, caught red-handed and reported.

According to initial reconstructions, the scammer would be just a pawn of an organization based in Naples, already responsible for numerous similar scams throughout Italy. Investigations are still ongoing to track down accomplices and instigators. This time, however, cunning won. And two elderly people, with a plan worthy of a movie, have demonstrated that crime can also be fooled.
