Vomero, Boss Desio and Ambulance Boss Marco Salvati Released

Naples – New shocks in the organized crime of Colli Aminei and Vomero. After the maxi blitz of 2021 that had dismantled the Cimmino-Caiazzo clan, one of the leaders considered to be at the top of the organization, Alessandro Desio, obtained release from prison with the benefit of house arrest three days ago.

Together with him, he also left prison Marco Salvati, considered the de facto manager of Croce San Pio, a transport association for the sick which – according to the Prosecutor's Office – could have operated in a monopoly position in the hospitals in the area thanks to the protection of the clan.

The measure was ordered by panel A of the seventh criminal section of the Court of Naples, before which the first-degree trial is underway for the defendants who chose the ordinary procedure.

The decision came following the request made by Desio's lawyers, Antonio Abet and Salvatore Operetto, who convinced the judges of the mitigation of the precautionary needs related to their client. Desio, who until yesterday was detained in the maximum security prison of Pagliarelli in Palermo, will return to his home in Antignano, in the heart of Vomero.

At the centre of the proceedings, very serious accusations: Desio is indicated as one of the chief promoters of the Cimmino clan and is the protagonist of a vast extortion system linked, among other things, to the contracts for the renovation of six pavilions of the Cardarelli hospital and to extortionist episodes to the detriment of supermarkets in the hilly district.

One of the key episodes of the investigation concerns an alleged bribe of 400 thousand euros imposed in 2017 on a temporary consortium composed of the companies Cosap and Co.Ge.Pa., winners of a 47 million euro contract for the technological adaptation of the Cardarelli.

According to investigators, the extortion would have generated internal tensions within the e, in particular between Luigi Cimmino (historical boss then collaborator of justice who died last month), his son Franco Diego and other affiliates, including Andrea Basile, Giovanni Caruson and Desio himself. In a wiretapped conversation, Desio complained to Caruson that the money had all ended up in the hands of the boss Cimmino.
