Ariano Irpino Prison
Ariano Irpino – A man, father of an inmate, was arrested yesterday morning at the Ariano Irpino District Prison for attempting to introduce narcotics intended for his son. The news was reported by Stefano Sorice, Head of the Gau Uilpa Penitentiary Police Secretariat.
The drug dealing attempt was foiled thanks to the promptness of the Inspector Coordinator of the interviews, who identified the drugs hidden in a false bottom of a plastic container inside a package.
The prison staff seized the substance and arrested the person responsible, who is now in prison at the same institute at the disposal of the Judicial Authority.
“Prisons are often places of dealing and corruption, where drugs, smartphones and even rudimentary weapons circulate,” denounces Sorice, highlighting the operational difficulties of the Penitentiary Police, forced to work in conditions of chronic staff shortage.
Drug use among the detainees, often drug addicts, represents an obstacle to the recovery process provided by penitentiary institutions, with negative consequences not only for the officers, but for the entire community.
The UILPA Penitentiary Police expresses praise to the Inspector and the officers involved for the professionalism demonstrated, which allowed to block yet another attempt to introduce drugs, contributing to the safety of the prison and the community.
Two weeks ago, a mother was arrested in the same prison after trying to bring drugs to her son in prison.
