9-Month-Old Baby in Coma, New Interrogations in Vibonati

Share

Investigations into the dramatic case of the nine-month-old baby in a coma, hospitalized in desperate conditions in Naples, continue unabated.

A new round of interrogations ordered by the Lagonegro Public Prosecutor's Office was held today at the Vibonati Carabinieri barracks in the Salerno area. At the centre of the investigation, coordinated by the military of the Sapri, the period of time – approximately one hour – in which the child was apparently left alone at home with his mother's partner, last Thursday.

Among the people interviewed there is again also the mother of the child, already interviewed in the past few days in the capital of Campania. The woman was summoned as a person informed of the facts to clarify some statements considered contradictory by the investigators.

The investigative focus is precisely on that time window prior to the hospitalization of the child, rushed to the hospital by his mother and her partner.

The picture emerging from the investigations is increasingly complex and worrying. The injuries found on the newborn's body - multiple fractures to the head, femur, ribs and neck - according to initial medical tests are not compatible with a single traumatic episode, but would indicate repeated aggression over time. A detail that opens up disturbing scenarios and makes the investigation even more delicate.

At the moment, the central position in the investigation remains that of the mother and her current partner, while the child's biological father appears to be unconnected to the affair and is not involved in any criminal hypothesis.

The utmost confidentiality imposed by the Prosecutor's Office also concerns the clinical conditions of the child, on which there is absolute institutional silence. All communications pass through the judicial offices of Lagonegro, in an attempt to avoid interference and guarantee maximum protection.

The investigation is still in the preliminary phase and further developments are not excluded in the coming days: new technical tests, forensic medical reports and further hearings could be ordered to shed light on a story that has shocked the entire community of the Gulf of Policastro. The newborn's conditions remain critical: he is in a coma, with very serious brain damage, and his life remains hanging on a very thin thread of hope.
