An operation by the Anti-Mafia District Directorate of Naples shook the island of Ischia this morning, with a joint blitz by the State Police and the Coast Guard in Casamicciola Spa.
At the center of the action, the seizure of the ship Giuseppina Prima, belonging to the shipping company Traspemar, docked at the island port coming from Pozzuoli. The operation, also supported by a helicopter, started at mid-morning, but the person sought by the agents was not found on board.
The investigations, shrouded in secrecy, focus on an alleged illicit trafficking of waste and dangerous goods, with particular attention to the disposal of mud from the 2022 Casamicciola flood and waste materials from post-earthquake demolitions in 2017. The seized ship is used to transport waste from Ischia and Procida to the mainland.
As part of the operation, the Naples Public Prosecutor's Office ordered the arrest of Angelo Marrazzo, entrepreneur and owner of Traspemar, now under house arrest on charges of extortion and illicit competition aggravated by mafia methods.
In addition to the Giuseppina Prima, the ship Don Angelo, chartered for the transport of waste to the Aeolian Islands, was also seized. Investigations continue to clarify the contours of an inquiry that could reveal a system of environmental crimes and organized criminal activities.
