Bradyseism in Pozzuoli, residents ask for safety and more streamlined procedures

Pozzuoli – A crucial face-to-face meeting between institutions and citizens’ committees was held yesterday at the headquarters of the Municipal Operations Center in Pozzuoli.

At the center of the debate, the pressing requests of the residents of Campi Flegrei, severely tested by the bradyseismic crisis, who ask for concrete help, safety of buildings and more streamlined procedures to deal with the emergency.

An institutional discussion table

The summit was attended by the Prefect of Naples, Michele Di Bari, the mayors of Bacoli, Monte di Procida and Pozzuoli, the deputy mayor of the Municipality of Naples, Laura Lieto, the head of the regional Civil Protection, Italo Giulivo, the regional school director, Ettore Acerra, the director of the Vesuvius Observatory, Mauro Di Vito, and above all the representatives of the coordination of the committees and movements for the Campi Flegrei.

The committees reiterated their request for an anti-seismic adaptation program and the need for more funds, complaining about the cumbersome procedures for disbursing aid.

“We can tell citizens that the entire institutional chain – namely the Government, Region and Municipalities – is close to them,” explained Prefect Di Bari. “Their requests are certainly taken into consideration in the name of great collaboration between all the institutions.”

The priority: no one without housing solutions

A clear appeal emerged from the committees: "The priority remains not to leave anyone without even temporary housing solutions". In the meantime, theVesuvius Observatory has published the new weekly report, which records 49 earthquakes, a stable uplift of 1,5 centimeters per month and no changes in geochemical data.

Leaving the headquarters of the Municipal Operations Center of Pozzuoli, Prefect Michele Di Bari declared: "We have listened to the requests that come from the citizens of the territories involved and from the various committees that have met in a coordination. They have given me a document that will obviously be the object of careful study in the wake of a method of dialogue and comparison".

The Prefect also announced that a meeting will be held on Thursday between municipal technicians and those of the interested parties at the Municipality of Pozzuoli to address the "difficulties from the point of view of technical procedures", for which "positive responses" have been provided.

Michele Di Bari finally retraced the activity carried out so far, ensuring that "certainly no one will be left alone" in a situation that presents different aspects, all taken into due consideration. The meeting marks an important step in the dialogue between citizens and institutions to address a crisis that continues to keep the Phlegraean population in suspense.
