They moved the cars with ease, but they were not them. The two young Neapolitans, aged 21 and 25, who ended up under house arrest, used rental cars to strike undisturbed in the heart of the Aversa countryside, especially in the municipality of Trentola Ducenta. The Carabinieri of the local station, led by the Aversa Company, caught them at the end of a rapid but intense investigation, conducted in the months of April and May 2024 with the coordination of the Public Prosecutor's Office of Naples North.
According to the reconstruction, the two would have forced and taken away several vehicles, even high-powered ones, parked along the streets. But they were betrayed by the electronic eyes scattered throughout the territory and the signals sent by the GPS devices, together with a meticulous analysis of the databases used by the police. Elements that allowed the investigators to nail them to their responsibilities, reconstructing the dynamics of a plan that, behind an apparent simplicity, hid a precise organization.
Making their system even more effective was the use of cars rented with fictitious documents and registrations, thanks to the complicity - yet to be fully ascertained - of some car rental companies. A move that should have guaranteed anonymity and impunity, but which instead ended up being the key to reconstructing the investigative mosaic.
The precautionary order, issued by the investigating judge of the Court of Naples North, has come to close an investigation that has given rapid answers to a territory hit by a series of serial thefts. Road and urban safety is thus back at the center, while the Arma dei Carabinieri reaffirms its presence on the territory with silent but decisive investigative work.
